FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOCAL RESOLUTION ON CORPORATE PERSONHOOD VOTED AND APPROVED BY TAMPA CITY COUNCIL
Today Tampa City Council voted and approved on a local resolution that corporations are not people and money is not free speech and called on Congress to begin the process of amending the Constitution and providing an effective date.
Councilwoman Mary Mulhern stated that the council members are those that are closest to the people and not the corporations and that there were no "superpacs" available to her when she ran for office. She also stated that a poll by the Washington Post in late January noted that 72% of those polled from all political parties were in disagreement with the Supreme Court ruling on Citizen's United making "corporations people and money free speech." Councilwoman Capin thanked Councilwoman Mulhern and Councilman Reddick for proposing the resolution and upholding the original Constitution and the people it was written for.
Motion to vote was made and all council members that were present voted and approved unanimously.
